OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Friday paid a working visit to the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), reaffirming the state government’s commitment to expanding water transportation as a viable alternative to road travel under the Omi-Eko Project.

The visit formed part of the Commissioner’s ongoing series of courtesy and strategic engagements with agencies under the Ministry of Transportation.

Earlier in the week, Mr. Osiyemi had visited the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), where he held discussions with management teams on strategic priorities and plans for 2026.

At LAGFERRY, the Commissioner was received by the Managing Director, Hon. Abdoubaq Ladi Balogun, who briefed him on the agency’s performance in 2025 and presented its operational plans and growth targets for the 2026 fiscal year.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Osiyemi commended LAGFERRY for the significant improvements recorded in water transportation across the state, noting that the transformation of the waterways has enhanced commuter confidence and expanded mobility options for residents.

He stressed the importance of fully harnessing Lagos’ vast waterways to decongest roads and provide a sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly transport alternative.

According to him, the Omi-Eko Project is expected to further reposition water transportation through the construction of new jetties, the dredging of additional routes and the deployment of 75 electric ferries across strategic corridors in the state.

The Commissioner also called on all agencies under the Ministry of Transportation to align operations with a shared vision, clear strategies and strong inter-agency collaboration to ensure the successful delivery of the ministry’s objectives in 2026.
