NRC Restates Commitment To Ensuring Safety Of Rail Operations
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has restated its commitment to ensuring the safety of rail operations across the country.
NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, made this commitment on Sunday in a post on his official X account, in reaction to the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovering a sophisticated attempt to transport vandalised railway components across state lines, leading to the arrest of five suspects.
Acting on credible intelligence on 12 January 2026, operatives positioned along the Miri–Jos Road intercepted a long-vehicle truck near Gital town in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. The vehicle, registered as MDB 360 XA, was reportedly destined for the eastern region of Nigeria.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 80 pieces of railway tracks and five pairs of slippers hidden beneath bags of chicken feed, a method of concealment intended to bypass security checkpoints.
Reacting, NRC boss, Opeifa hailed the Bauchi State Command of the NSCDC while also restating the corporation’s commitment to ensuring the safety of rail operations across Nigeria.
“This interception in Bauchi is a clear sign that our renewed security framework is yielding results. Under this management, we have intensified surveillance, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and taken a zero-tolerance stance against vandalism and theft of railway assets,” Opeifa said.
“The arrest of those involved in stealing railway tracks sends a strong message that our infrastructure will be protected, and anyone who threatens it will be brought to justice.
“We remain committed to safeguarding national assets, ensuring the safety of rail operations, and extending confidence in Nigeria’s railway system.”
