Lagos Debunks Viral Traffic Restriction Claim On Ikeja Bridge

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has dismissed as false a viral message alleging new traffic restrictions around the Sheraton Link Bridge inward Opebi Road in Ikeja.

In a statement issued on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the ministry clarified that there had been no changes to traffic rules in the area, urging motorists to disregard the circulating information.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the message as “false and misleading,” stressing that no diversion plans or alterations to the existing traffic flow had been introduced.

According to the ministry, traffic regulations around the Sheraton Link Bridge and its environs remain unchanged until officially announced otherwise.

It also refuted claims that task force officials had been deployed to harass or extort motorists in the area, stating that such allegations were unfounded.

The clarification followed the widespread circulation of a WhatsApp and X message on Sunday, which claimed that motorists approaching the bridge were required to divert through alternative routes, including the Ojota-Opebi link, and warned of aggressive enforcement by officials.

The ministry advised residents and road users to rely only on verified government channels for traffic updates and to avoid sharing unconfirmed information.
