NRC Adds Extra Lagos-Ibadan Train Trips For Sallah Travel Rush

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary increase in train operations along the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor ahead of the Sallah celebration to cater for the expected rise in passenger traffic.

The Corporation said the adjustment will take effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with the number of daily train trips increased from four to six during the festive period.

Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos, explaining that the move was aimed at easing movement for travellers during the holiday season.

According to him, the additional train services are temporary and will only operate throughout the Sallah celebration period.

“Under the special arrangement, the corporation will operate six train trips on Tuesday instead of the usual four trips currently operated on the corridor,” Unyimadu stated.

He explained that train departures from Lagos are scheduled for 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while departures from Ibadan will take place at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The NRC spokesman added that the regular timetable would resume after the festive period.
He also noted that the usual Thursday six-trip schedule would be temporarily reduced to four trips on May 28 before normal operations fully resume the following week.

Meanwhile, the Corporation disclosed that the Osun State Government will operate its annual free Sallah train service on the narrow gauge corridor for indigenes travelling home for the celebration.

According to the statement, the special train service will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on May 26, while the return trip from Osogbo to Lagos is scheduled for May 28.

Unyimadu said the service, sponsored by the Osun State Government through a partnership arrangement with the NRC, is intended to ease transportation challenges for residents during the festive season.

The NRC reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, efficient and reliable railway transportation services nationwide and wished Nigerians a peaceful Sallah celebration.
