LAMATA Increases Blue Line Train Services to 94 Daily Trips

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced an expansion of operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, increasing the number of daily train trips from 90 to 94 and introducing an earlier start time for weekday and Saturday services.

The new schedule, which will take effect on June 15, 2026, was disclosed in a statement issued by LAMATA and shared by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Tuesday.

According to the authority, train services on weekdays and Saturdays will now commence at 6:00 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than the previous 6:30 a.m. start time. The service will continue to operate until 9:30 p.m.

LAMATA said the adjustments are aimed at improving passenger convenience, reducing waiting times and accommodating the growing number of commuters using the rail corridor.

The authority noted that the earlier departure time would enable thousands of passengers to begin their journeys ahead of peak road traffic periods, while the increase in daily trips is expected to ease congestion at stations and enhance travel efficiency.

The agency also announced improvements to Sunday operations, increasing the number of trips from 22 to 24. Trains will operate at regular 30-minute intervals throughout the day to provide greater predictability and convenience for passengers.

According to LAMATA, the service expansion reflects the increasing popularity of the Blue Line since commercial passenger operations commenced on September 4, 2023.

The authority revealed that more than six million passengers have been transported on the Blue Line since its launch, highlighting its growing role in improving urban mobility and reducing travel times across Lagos.

The latest enhancement forms part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen mass transit infrastructure and provide residents with more reliable and efficient transportation options amid rising demand for rail services.
