A commercial bus driver was killed on Tuesday in a multiple-vehicle collision along the Cele inward Oshodi corridor in Lagos, prompting an emergency response by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies.

The fatal crash involved a commercial minibus, popularly known as a “Korokpe,” and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with registration number EPE 554 YC, according to LASTMA.

Preliminary findings by security personnel at the scene indicated that the commercial bus driver sustained severe injuries from the impact of the collision and died instantly.

LASTMA officials, who were conducting routine traffic monitoring operations in the area, swiftly responded to the incident.

The agency said its operatives secured the accident scene, coordinated emergency measures, and managed traffic to prevent further congestion on the busy route.

Working alongside officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Cele-Ijesha Division, emergency responders recovered the driver’s remains and released them to his family after necessary procedures were completed.

Authorities also evacuated the damaged vehicles and other debris from the roadway to restore normal traffic flow.

The vehicles involved in the crash were subsequently handed over to the police for a comprehensive investigation aimed at determining the circumstances and possible causes of the accident.

Traffic disruptions caused by the incident were brought under control following the intervention of LASTMA personnel, who deployed traffic management measures to ease vehicular movement along the affected corridor.

Reacting to the tragedy, the General Manager of LASTMA expressed condolences to the family of the deceased driver and urged motorists, particularly commercial transport operators, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and exercise greater caution on the roads.

Road traffic accidents remain a significant concern in Lagos, one of Africa’s largest urban centres, where authorities continue to intensify enforcement and public awareness campaigns aimed at improving road safety and reducing fatalities.
