The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to transform the state’s water transportation system with the maiden stakeholder engagement on the €410 million Omi Eko Project, aimed at fostering collaboration and ensuring the successful delivery of the ambitious initiative.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, promote a shared understanding of the project’s objectives, and build collective commitment towards its effective implementation.
Speaking at the engagement, the government reaffirmed its commitment to developing a modern, sustainable and efficient water transport network that will serve as a viable alternative to road transportation across Lagos.
The Omi Eko Project is expected to enhance connectivity across the state’s waterways, improve commuters’ travel experience, stimulate economic opportunities, and advance environmental sustainability through the promotion of cleaner and safer water transport.
The government noted that the initiative aligns with its broader vision of developing an integrated, multimodal transport system that supports the state’s growing population while unlocking the economic potential of its waterways and blue economy.
Stakeholders at the meeting expressed their commitment to working collaboratively to ensure the successful implementation of the project, which is expected to position Lagos waterways as a preferred, safe and sustainable mode of transportation.
