NANS Endorses Tinubu, Umahi After Inspection Of Federal Road Projects
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, following an inspection of ongoing federal road projects in Cross River State and along the Benue-Cross River corridor.
The students’ body announced its position on Saturday after a delegation assessed the quality of construction and the level of progress recorded on selected road projects across the two states.
The delegation was led by the President of the NANS Senate, Senator Ibeabuchi Onyia, and comprised national officers, zonal leaders, state executives and campus leaders.
The roads inspected included the Alesi-Ugep (Iyamoyung-Ugep) section in Cross River State, Sections 3A and 3B of the Calabar Coastal Highway, covering Chainage 0+000 to Chainage 65+000, as well as the Adikpo-Ajio-Teshe-Ada-Kyogen-Obudu Road linking Benue and Cross River states.
Speaking after the inspection, Onyia said the delegation observed commendable progress on the projects, noting that construction activities reflected discipline, technical competence and a commitment to quality among the site crews.
He described the progress recorded across the projects as steady and measurable, singling out the Calabar Coastal Highway for its scale and ambition.
According to him, the completion of the projects would significantly improve transportation, strengthen connectivity between communities and enhance economic activities across the affected areas.
Onyia said the roads were expected to reduce travel time, improve access to farmlands and markets, connect border communities and minimise road accidents, while easing the difficulties faced by commuters and other road users.
He also commended the Federal Ministry of Works for what he described as its commitment to professionalism and quality in the execution of federal infrastructure projects.
Speaking on behalf of Nigerian students, the NANS Senate president declared the association’s vote of confidence in Umahi, attributing the decision to the minister’s hands-on leadership and the progress observed during the inspection.
He further endorsed Tinubu, praising the President’s commitment to infrastructure development and efforts to improve connectivity across the country.
Onyia said the ongoing road projects demonstrated the importance of infrastructure investment in opening up communities to trade, tourism, investment and broader economic opportunities.
“With this, we reaffirm our endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to rebuilding the country’s infrastructure and opening up regions to trade, investment, tourism and economic growth,” he said.
The inspection forms part of efforts to assess the implementation of federal road projects and their potential impact on transportation, regional connectivity and economic development in the benefiting communities.
