Shettima Reaffirms FG’s Commitment To Bakassi Deep Seaport, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing both projects as strategic investments capable of transforming Cross River State’s economy.

Shettima gave the assurance on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

He said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would enhance connectivity among coastal communities, ease the movement of goods and services, boost tourism and attract fresh investments into the region.

According to the Vice President, the highway would also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, while strengthening economic activities along the coastal corridor.

On the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport, Shettima disclosed that the Federal Government had approved the project, expressing confidence that its development would position Cross River State as a major maritime hub and gateway for international trade.

He noted that the successful implementation of the two projects would unlock new economic opportunities, expand commercial activities and increase Cross River’s contribution to the national economy.

The Vice President also highlighted the Federal Government’s interventions in the education sector, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said was designed to improve access to higher education and ease the financial burden on parents.

Describing the relationship between the Federal Government and Cross River State as one anchored on shared prosperity and development, Shettima urged residents to sustain their support for the APC.

He also appealed to the electorate to re-elect President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in the 2027 general elections, arguing that continued cooperation between both levels of government would accelerate infrastructure development and economic growth in the state.
