Container Truck Rams Broken-Down LAWMA Vehicle In Lagos

A 20-foot containerised truck has collided with a broken-down Lagos Waste Management Authority truck at Apakun, inward Iyana-Isolo, Lagos State.

The accident, which occurred overnight, was reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in a post on its official X account on Thursday.

According to LASTMA, the container truck rammed into the stationary LAWMA vehicle, resulting in a casualty that was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The agency said its rescue team had arrived at the scene to commence emergency operations and facilitate the restoration of normal traffic flow.

LASTMA also disclosed that a crane machine and a high-capacity tow truck had been activated to remove the damaged vehicles from the road.

The agency stated, “We recorded an overnight accident at Apakun inward Iyana-Isolo, involving a broken-down LAWMA truck and a 20-ft containerised truck which rammed into it.

“A crane machine and high-capacity tow truck have been activated.

“The LASTMA Rescue Team is presently at the scene, and the casualty recorded has been taken to the hospital.”

A video released by the traffic management agency showed the accident scene, with a victim seen lying on the road.

However, details concerning the identity of the victim and the extent of the injuries sustained were not immediately available.

The incident has again raised concerns about the risks posed by heavy-duty vehicles and broken-down vehicles on major Lagos roads, particularly where traffic is heavy.

Broken-down trucks and other large vehicles can obstruct traffic lanes and expose approaching motorists to the risk of secondary collisions, especially when adequate warning signs are not immediately deployed.

Authorities have consistently advised motorists and operators of heavy-duty vehicles to observe road safety regulations, properly mark vehicles that develop faults and ensure that such vehicles are removed from busy roads as quickly as possible.

LASTMA’s ongoing recovery operation is expected to ease the obstruction at the Apakun–Iyana-Isolo corridor and restore smoother movement for motorists.
