A police officer has died following a fatal road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos after a Lexus Jeep reportedly rammed into his motorcycle.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the Adekunle inward Iyana-Oworo section of the bridge when the Lexus vehicle, with registration number EPE 765 JN, collided with the officer, who was riding a Bajaj motorcycle.

The officer was confirmed dead at the scene.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, described the incident as tragic, adding that the driver later reported himself at the Adekunle Police Division.

According to the statement, emergency responders, including personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and LASTMA officials, were immediately deployed to the scene to manage traffic and secure the area.
