Edo Begins Repairs On Damaged Idogbo Bridge, Urges Motorists To Be Patient
The Edo State Government has commenced repairs on the damaged section beneath the Idogbo bypass bridge in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, with motorists urged to remain patient and comply with traffic regulations while work continues.
The damage, caused by a truck belonging to a logistics company, prompted government intervention. The company has since signed an agreement to restore the affected road and has begun reconstruction work.
During an inspection of the site, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Phoebe Williams-Bello, said Governor Monday Okpebholo had directed relevant agencies to ensure the road was restored and government assets protected.
According to her, the logistics company accepted responsibility for the damage and has begun reinstating the road to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles.
Williams-Bello noted that repair work was progressing despite the rainy weather, describing the response of the agencies involved as commendable. She reiterated the governor’s commitment to safeguarding both federal and state government infrastructure in Edo State.
The Federal Controller of Works in Edo State, Babatunde Tajudeen, also commended the logistics company for responding promptly to the government’s directive to repair the damaged section beneath the Idogbo Bridge along the Benin bypass.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Works, John Obanor, appealed to motorists to obey traffic signs and exercise patience while repairs are ongoing to ensure the free flow of traffic.
The Chairman of the Edo State Public Property Protection Committee, Eugene Okoloise, who had earlier taken custody of the truck involved in the incident, returned its keys to the company after repair work commenced.
The contractor handling the project said equipment had been mobilised to the site and that work would continue day and night to ensure the repairs are completed as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Idogbo Community, Friday Uhunamure, expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo and the relevant government agencies for their swift response, which led to the commencement of repair works.
