FAAN Trains Staff Under ICAO NGAP Programme To Build Future Aviation Workforce

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has concluded the maiden edition of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Global Programme, aimed at strengthening workforce development and preparing the next generation of aviation professionals.

The four-day training, held at the FAAN Training School from July 20 to 23, brought together personnel from key operational and support departments, including Airport Operations, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), Safety, Human Resources, Finance and Engineering.

The programme forms part of FAAN’s human capacity development initiatives and aligns with ICAO’s NGAP objectives of building a sustainable, competent and future-ready aviation workforce through talent development, career progression and succession planning.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of FAAN Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to investing in human capital as a key driver of operational excellence and sustainable growth.

Orah noted that the aviation industry is evolving rapidly, making continuous learning and skills development essential for professionals to meet emerging challenges and global best practices.

She urged participants to actively engage in the training and apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery across the Authority.

In her welcome address, the General Manager, Training and Human Resources Development, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, described the programme as an opportunity for both personal and professional development.

She encouraged participants to acquire new competencies and leverage the knowledge gained to advance their careers while supporting FAAN’s succession planning and talent retention efforts.

According to Akinlade, developing and retaining skilled professionals remains critical to the Authority’s continued growth and operational excellence.

The training also provided a platform for participants from various FAAN directorates and operational units to exchange knowledge, strengthen collaboration and develop leadership skills needed to drive the future of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
