The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos and Ogun Sector Commands, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Wednesday carried out a joint special traffic monitoring and operational assessment exercise along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The exercise was led by the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, and the Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Oladapo Fasakin, alongside the Head of Operations of NEMA’s Lagos Office, Mr. Tunde Mohammed.
According to the agencies, the high-level monitoring exercise was aimed at ensuring free flow of traffic, enforcing compliance with traffic regulations, and enhancing road safety during the current peak travel period.
Key areas of focus included the identification of traffic bottlenecks, assessment of personnel operational readiness, enforcement of lane discipline, and strengthening inter-agency coordination to ensure prompt response to incidents along the busy corridor linking Lagos to other parts of the South-West.
During the operation, three drivers were apprehended for traffic violations related to lane indiscipline, including an expatriate, highlighting the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy toward violations that endanger lives and disrupt traffic flow.
The sector commanders stressed that all road users, regardless of status or nationality, are required to comply with Nigeria’s traffic laws.
Speaking during the assessment, the FRSC Lagos and Ogun Sector Commanders noted that sustained visibility, proactive enforcement, and collaborative operations remain critical to reducing road crashes, minimizing travel delays, and ensuring safer journeys for motorists during and beyond the festive season.
Mr. Mohammed commended the level of synergy among the participating agencies and reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to timely emergency response and disaster risk reduction on major highways across the country.
The FRSC Lagos and Ogun Sector Commands advised motorists to remain patient, maintain lane discipline, avoid distracted driving, and comply with traffic regulations at all times to promote safer roads nationwide.
