Lagos Orders Investigation Into VIS–Motorist Clash Captured in Viral Video
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has launched an investigation into a recent altercation between Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) officers and a motorist, following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
In an official statement signed by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry confirmed that the incident occurred on November 25, 2025, when VIS officers stopped an articulated vehicle whose container was allegedly not properly latched, posing a serious danger to other road users. Further checks reportedly revealed that the truck was unroadworthy, with a faulty braking system.
According to the Ministry, instead of submitting to inspection, the driver attempted to escape and, in the process, drove recklessly, damaging vehicles and endangering both officers and members of the public.
While condemning the driver’s actions, the Ministry stressed that it does not condone excessive force or unprofessional conduct by enforcement personnel. It noted that the behaviour captured in the video does not reflect the standards expected of VIS officers.
“A full, fair and impartial investigation has commenced. Officers found culpable will face disciplinary action in line with regulations, while the driver will be prosecuted for violations and endangerment,” the statement read.
The Ministry assured residents of transparency and pledged to make the outcome of the investigation public.
It reaffirmed VIS’ commitment to ensuring roadworthiness and safety across Lagos State, noting that the incident highlights the challenges faced by traffic enforcement officers and the need for cooperation from motorists.
