Lagos Taskforce Impounds 66 Okadas In Island Enforcement

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly known as the Lagos State Taskforce, has impounded 66 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okadas, during an enforcement operation across Lagos Island.

The operation, conducted on Monday, August 10, 2026, was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to enforce the state’s transport regulations and curb illegal commercial motorcycle operations on restricted routes.

The enforcement team carried out operations at CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, Lekki-Ajah Expressway and the Lagos Coastal Road, where several commercial motorcycle operators were found violating restrictions on their operations.

The Taskforce said the exercise also formed part of broader efforts to tackle street trading, illegal ticket collection and other activities considered a nuisance and security threat across the metropolis.

Speaking after the operation at the agency’s headquarters at Safety Arena, Bolade, Oshodi, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, said the agency had intensified intelligence gathering and tactical operations to eliminate illegal Okada activities from restricted highways, bridges and other prohibited routes across the state.

Akerele acknowledged that some operators had devised tactics to evade enforcement but said the agency’s intelligence-driven approach would make it increasingly difficult for them to continue operating illegally.

He warned that future enforcement operations would target not only illegal motorcycle operators but also passengers found violating the state’s transport regulations.

According to him, all impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

The Taskforce reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement across Lagos until full compliance with the state’s transport regulations is achieved.
