Lagos Warns Against Sale Of Rams On Highways Ahead Of Eid-el-Kabir
The Lagos State Government has warned residents against the sale and display of rams and other livestock on major roads, medians, lay-bys, parks, and other unauthorised public spaces ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, issued the warning during a media briefing on Monday, stressing that environmental laws and street trading regulations would be strictly enforced throughout the festive period.
According to a statement signed by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, the government said no exemption would be granted for illegal roadside livestock markets established during the Sallah season.
Wahab urged residents, particularly Muslim faithful celebrating Eid-el-Kabir, to maintain proper hygiene and ensure that waste generated during the festivities is properly bagged and disposed of at approved collection points for evacuation by the Lagos Waste Management Authority.
He warned that environmental offenders would face sanctions, reiterating the state government’s commitment to maintaining order, protecting public infrastructure, and ensuring a clean environment during the celebrations.
The commissioner also advised residents to make use of approved parks and recreational centres for leisure activities, instead of converting roadsides and public spaces into makeshift markets and stalls.
He further cautioned against indiscriminate waste disposal, illegal structures, and unsanitary practices, noting that environmental cleanliness remains a collective responsibility.
While wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Wahab said the government remained committed to balancing festive activities with environmental discipline to prevent congestion, pollution, and safety risks.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays for the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
