LASEMA Responds To Multiple Emergencies Across Lagos, Urges Public Vigilance
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed its response to a series of emergencies across Lagos State, including road traffic accidents, fallen containers, and fire outbreaks in different parts of the metropolis.
In a statement issued by the agency, a 40-foot container reportedly fell off a Mack truck onto a commercial van at Apongbon, inward Eko Bridge, causing significant traffic congestion in the area. No casualties were recorded, and emergency responders successfully recovered the container, restoring normal traffic flow.
In a separate incident, a truck lost control and overturned at Barracks, inward Stadium, obstructing a section of the road. The driver escaped unhurt, while officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) evacuated the vehicle to ease traffic.
Meanwhile, a multi-vehicle collision occurred along 7Up Road, near the Lagos State Governor’s Office, involving a GAC Jeep, a police Hilux, and a luxury bus. One person sustained injuries and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The agency also reported a fire outbreak at Ajao Estate, which destroyed a storey building. Preliminary findings attributed the cause of the fire to a power surge. Emergency responders contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjoining structures. No lives were lost.
In another fire incident at CMS Bridge, around Landmark Marina Station, a truck conveying 10,000 litres of diesel caught fire due to a mechanical fault. Firefighters and emergency officials quickly intervened to extinguish the blaze and safely evacuate the vehicle. No casualties were recorded.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety precautions. He also advised the public to promptly report emergencies through the state’s toll-free lines, 112 or 767.
LASEMA reiterated its commitment to ensuring rapid response and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
