Nine Escape Death As Bus Crashes Into Two Vehicles In Ondo
At least five people sustained injuries while nine others reportedly escaped unhurt when a passenger bus crashed into two parked vehicles at Oba-Ile First Gate in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday.
The accident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. and involved an 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LAM 256 LG, Kogi, and two parked vehicles with registration numbers AKR 914 FT and DV 724 EKY.
The bus, which was travelling from Lagos, reportedly lost control and rammed into the two vehicles while attempting to avoid another vehicle that suddenly obstructed its path.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the incident was triggered by the reckless driving of the driver of a Dyna vehicle, who was said to have lost control and subsequently fled the scene.
Five passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
However, one of the passengers, Austin Akoji, gave a different account of the number of occupants in the bus, saying there were about nine passengers on board when the crash occurred.
Akoji said five of the passengers were taken to hospital, while others, including himself, sustained minor injuries.
The crash reportedly caused significant damage to all three vehicles involved.
Security personnel were also seen at the scene assisting with rescue efforts and making arrangements to tow the damaged vehicles to the police station.
The exact cause of the accident had yet to be independently established as of the time of filing the report.
