NIS Begins Airport Training Series To Boost Professionalism, Service Delivery
The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has commenced a nationwide capacity-building programme for personnel serving at airport commands, beginning with a two-week training for officers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The training, which held from July 28 to August 7, 2026, at the Shehu Shagari Conference Hall of the NIS headquarters, is the first in a series planned for airport formations across the country.
The NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement shared on the Service’s X handle on Sunday.
He said the programme, themed, “Repositioning NIS Airport Operations for Professional Excellence, Ethical Conduct and Enhanced Service Delivery,” was designed to strengthen operational efficiency, professionalism, ethical conduct and service delivery among immigration personnel.
According to him, participants were trained in key areas including passenger profiling, visa and entry verification, passenger and crew clearance, queue management, the Migration Information and Data Analysis System, MIDAS, e-Gates, apron operations, hostmanship, ethical conduct and anti-corruption practices.
Akinlabi said the initiative was introduced by the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, in response to the evolving demands of modern airport operations, rising passenger traffic and the increasing deployment of technology in border management.
He added that the training would equip NIS personnel with the practical knowledge and skills required to effectively manage emerging challenges in airport and border operations.
The NIS spokesperson said the Service remained committed to improving airport operations through continuous professional development, innovation, accountability and adherence to global best practices.
He noted that the initiative was also aimed at strengthening border security while improving the experience of international travellers passing through Nigeria’s airports.
