One Dead, Two Injured In Auto Crash On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
A fatal road traffic accident has claimed the life of one person and left two others injured along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Mowe, in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, March 23, 2026, at about 5:48 p.m., involved a white Toyota Camry with registration number APP 688 JR and an unidentified slow-moving truck. The crash took place near Christopher University on the outbound Lagos axis of the busy highway.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Papal Oscar towing service, and the Ogun State Ambulance Service (OGSAES), arrived at the scene shortly after the accident to carry out rescue operations.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the Toyota Camry was reportedly driving at excessive speed before ramming into the moving truck, leading to the fatal collision.
Three occupants were involved in the crash—one male and two female adults. One of the female passengers was confirmed dead at the scene, while the remaining two victims; a male and a female sustained injuries.
The injured victims were immediately evacuated to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital for medical treatment, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of Redeemed Hospital.
Authorities disclosed that the accidented vehicle was subsequently towed from the scene by Papal Oscar for further investigation, while traffic officials worked to restore normalcy along the expressway.
TRACE officials later confirmed that traffic flow had returned to normal on both lanes of the highway following the clearance of the wreckage.
Further details revealed that the two female passengers, alongside the driver, were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Abeokuta to attend a wedding ceremony, having earlier arrived in Nigeria from the United Kingdom.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency commiserated with the families of the deceased and the injured, while reiterating its warning to motorists to avoid excessive speeding.
“Drivers are again advised to exercise caution and adhere strictly to speed limits, considering the grave consequences of reckless driving,” the agency stated.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major transit corridor frequently plagued by accidents linked to speeding and poor driving practices.
