Otu Orders Immediate Repairs On Failed Sections Of Calabar-Odukpani Road
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has directed the immediate repair of failed sections of the Calabar-Odukpani Road to improve safety and ease of movement for motorists and residents.
The governor issued the directive during an inspection of critical sections of the road along the Calabar corridor, where severe potholes and gully erosion have damaged parts of the highway.
According to Otu, the poor condition of the road reinforces the need for urgent intervention to protect commuters and restore confidence in the state’s road infrastructure.
He instructed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to mobilise contractors without delay to begin emergency remedial works on the affected sections.
The Calabar-Odukpani Road is a major transport corridor linking Calabar metropolis with Odukpani, Akamkpa and other parts of Cross River State. Its deteriorating condition has generated widespread concern among residents and road users.
The governor said the emergency repairs would provide immediate relief while the state government develops a permanent engineering solution to address the recurring failures on the road.
He stressed that his administration is committed to delivering durable and sustainable infrastructure capable of serving both present and future generations, rather than relying on temporary fixes.
Otu added that improving road infrastructure remains a key priority of his administration, noting that every project undertaken is aimed at enhancing the quality of life of Cross River residents.
He also appealed to residents to remain patient and cooperate with the government as efforts continue to provide lasting infrastructure across the state.
