Lagos Disburses 40m Consolatory Support to Families of Fallen LASTMA Officers
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Lagos State Government has disbursed a total of 40 million as consolatory assistance to the families and dependants of deceased officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The presentation, coordinated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, was held on Tuesday at the LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.
A total of 20 families and dependants benefitted from the exercise, with each receiving N2 million.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Giwa stressed that the financial support should not be regarded as compensation for the loss of lives, noting that no monetary value can equate the sanctity and irreplaceable worth of human life.
He explained that the gesture represents the state government’s acknowledgement of the courage, dedication and ultimate sacrifice of the fallen officers in service to Lagos State.
According to him, the intervention underscores the commitment of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to honour the memories of officers who paid the supreme price while ensuring that their families are not left unsupported.
“The Lagos State Government remains committed to preserving the legacy of these brave men and women. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and their families will continue to enjoy the support and solidarity of the state,” Giwa said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, commended the state government for demonstrating empathy and compassion in governance.
He noted that the initiative would further strengthen public confidence in government institutions and reassure serving officers that dedication and sacrifice are recognised and honoured.
Earlier, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the fallen officers as patriots whose commitment, discipline and selflessness would remain indelible in the history of the Authority.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for sustaining a humane and people-centred approach to governance.
Adding an emotional dimension to the ceremony, the wife of the pioneer General Manager of LASTMA, Late Engr. Adebayo Adegboayega Coker, encouraged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the financial assistance for the education and welfare of their children, whom she described as the enduring legacies of the departed officers.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiary families, the wife of Late Adeyemo Rotimi expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the gesture, lauding his empathy and commitment to preserving the dignity and memory of fallen public servants.
The event ended with a renewed pledge by the Lagos State Government to prioritise the welfare of its workforce and to continually honour officers who make the ultimate sacrifice in the course of public service.
Beneficiaries at the ceremony included Mrs. Coker, Ola Aminat Adepeju, Arogundade Kudirat Oladunni, Adeyemo Silifat Eniola, Falana Felicia Adeola, Bakare Ajoke Fatima, Giwa Hameedat Oyindamola, Dada Adedoyin Rebecca, Akinsemoyin Toheebat Olasunbo, Sanni Esther Oyeyemi, Junaid Oyinlola Deborah, Aladaba Ibrahim Adewunmi, Alimi Mariam Morenike, Omosebi Temitope Jumoke, Alowooye Folashade Mojisola and Shittu Adijat Yetunde.
