Eid-el-Fitr: LASTMA Assures Smooth Traffic Flow, Enforces Zero Tolerance For Violations In Lagos
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Lagos and beyond, while assuring residents of seamless traffic movement during the festive period.
In a statement issued to mark the celebration, Bakare-Oki congratulated the Muslim faithful for their devotion, discipline, and resilience throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
He urged them to sustain the values of patience, orderliness, and civic responsibility in their daily activities, particularly on the roads.
The LASTMA boss emphasised that the agency would maintain strict enforcement of traffic regulations, declaring zero tolerance for violations before, during, and after the festivities.
He warned motorists and other road users against reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised loading and off-loading, and driving against traffic.
“While we celebrate this important occasion, all road users must exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules. LASTMA will not tolerate any action that puts lives at risk or hinders the free flow of traffic,” he said.
Bakare-Oki further disclosed that the agency had put in place a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement across major roads and high-activity areas in the state.
He noted that personnel had been strategically deployed to highways, major junctions, and locations expected to witness increased socio-religious activities.
He added that LASTMA officials would operate round the clock, working in collaboration with other security and emergency agencies to maintain order, enhance safety, and minimise traffic disruptions throughout the celebration.
The General Manager called on residents to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient, and comply with road safety regulations, stressing that collective responsibility is key to achieving a safe and efficient transport system.
He reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to effective traffic management, particularly during peak and festive periods, in line with its mandate to ensure safer roads and improved mobility across Lagos State.
