Dangote Cement Expands AI-Driven Safety Measures, Records Drop In Truck Crashes
Dangote Cement Plc has intensified its technology-driven transport safety initiatives, deploying artificial intelligence and advanced telematics systems to enhance operational efficiency and reduce road traffic crashes across its fleet.
The company said the upgraded transport management programmes focus on improved performance monitoring, strengthened governance standards, enhanced accountability frameworks, driver training, journey management, and regular recertification processes.
In a statement issued by its Branding and Communications Department, Dangote Cement noted that the initiatives also include mandatory drug and alcohol screening, strategic partnerships, sustainability programmes, and community impact projects.
Head of Transport at Dangote Cement, Murilo Silva, said the company has adopted automated inspection technologies and AI-powered solutions to improve safety and operational performance.
According to Silva, enhanced GPS and telematics systems now provide real-time monitoring of driver behaviour, enabling better oversight of fleet operations and road safety compliance.
He added that the company has expanded its driver wellness campaigns to address fatigue and has intensified engagement with third-party truck operators and drivers to promote safety awareness and compliance.
Silva said Dangote Cement’s collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has strengthened safety standards across its operations. He noted that FRSC personnel actively participate in driver training and screening at the Dangote Articulated Vehicle Driving School in Obajana, providing technical guidance and supporting the development of safety-conscious drivers.
The company reported significant improvements in safety compliance between the first quarters of 2025 and 2026. Drug and alcohol testing increased by 245.2 per cent, pre-trip vehicle inspections rose by 489.1 per cent, while driver training programmes expanded by 128.4 per cent.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, recently commended Dangote Cement for its proactive road safety measures and urged the company to sustain the reforms.
According to the FRSC, crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks declined by 56 per cent between 2025 and 2026, while fatalities dropped by 36 per cent and injuries decreased by 52 per cent.
Mohammed attributed the improvement to the company’s effective implementation of safety policies and gap-analysis recommendations, describing its road safety model as worthy of emulation across Africa’s logistics sector.
“We have always said that if Dangote Cement gets it right, Nigeria and Africa will get it right. This is a plus for Nigeria,” he said.
