FRSC Records 27% Drop In Road Crashes During Eid-el-Kabir Operations
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a 27 per cent reduction in road traffic crashes recorded during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir special patrol operations compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, describing the achievement as one of the agency’s most significant operational successes in recent years.
According to the FRSC, the number of road crashes recorded during the festive period declined from 191 cases in 2025 to 142 in 2026. The agency also reported a 22 per cent decrease in the number of people involved in crashes, with figures dropping from 1,364 to 1,064.
Ohaeri added that the number of injured persons fell by 25.4 per cent, from 576 in 2025 to 430 in 2026, noting that the reduction translated into hundreds of lives saved and families spared the consequences of road accidents.
He attributed the improved performance to the strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets along major highways nationwide, as well as intensified enforcement and public awareness campaigns.
The FRSC spokesperson said the operation featured round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-led surveillance, motorised chain patrols, prompt rescue services, traffic management measures, stakeholder collaboration and sustained public enlightenment programmes.
“These interventions helped create safer travel conditions for millions of Nigerians who travelled across the country before, during and after the Sallah celebrations,” he said.
Ohaeri also quoted the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as commending FRSC personnel, Special Marshals and partner agencies for their commitment and professionalism throughout the operation.
Mohammed said the results demonstrated that effective planning, sustained enforcement and collective responsibility could significantly reduce road crashes on Nigerian roads.
He further appreciated motorists and other road users who complied with traffic regulations and adhered to the corps’ safety advisories during the festive period.
The Corps Marshal reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to strengthening road safety interventions, enhancing stakeholder engagement and improving operational efficiency to achieve further reductions in crashes, injuries and fatalities.
He urged Nigerians to maintain safe road-use practices beyond festive seasons, stressing that road safety remains a shared responsibility.
