Three Feared Dead As Warri-Itakpe Train Derails In Delta
At least three passengers were feared dead on Monday evening following the derailment of the Warri–Itakpe train in Agbor, Delta State.
The incident was confirmed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in a statement issued by its Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa.
According to the NRC, emergency response and rescue operations were immediately activated after the accident, while efforts were made to ensure the safety and accountability of all passengers on board.
The corporation disclosed that three fatalities had been confirmed, adding that relevant authorities were still assessing the circumstances surrounding the derailment.
“Sadly, three fatalities have been confirmed at this time,” the statement said.
The NRC noted that support was being provided to affected passengers and their families as investigations continue into the cause of the incident.
“The thoughts and prayers of all Nigerians are with the victims and their loved ones,” the corporation stated.
It further urged members of the public to rely only on verified information and official updates from the NRC regarding the accident and ongoing investigations.
The Warri–Itakpe rail line is one of Nigeria’s major standard-gauge railway corridors, linking communities across Delta, Edo and Kogi states. Authorities are expected to provide further details as rescue efforts and investigations progress.
