Ogun Residents Beg Abiodun To Fix 4km Road Linking Iyana Adiyan, Randle

Residents of Iyana Adiyan, Gas Line and Randle communities in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to the state government to urgently rehabilitate the road linking the communities, describing its condition as a major threat to lives and economic activities.

The residents also urged the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Solomon Adeola, and the Peoples Democratic Party, Oladipupo Adebutu, to include the construction of the road in their development plans ahead of the state’s governorship election.

The four-kilometre road, which is said to provide a link to Mowe, has reportedly deteriorated over the years, with large potholes, deep craters, muddy surfaces and slippery portions making movement difficult, particularly during the rainy season.

A visit to the area showed that only a few vehicles were able to navigate the road, forcing many residents to depend heavily on commercial motorcycles for transportation. Some motorists have also reportedly modified their vehicles by raising them to increase ground clearance and reduce the impact of the bad road.

The residents said the poor condition of the road had led to frequent accidents, increased vehicle repair costs and negatively affected commercial activities in the communities.

The Chairman of Otitoleke Community Development Association, Adesola Adekunle, said residents had made several efforts to maintain the road but could no longer cope with the situation.

“We always face hardship on this road, and we are fed up. There is no intervention from the government. Residents are the only people maintaining the road,” Adekunle said.

He explained that the road could provide a much-needed link to Mowe if the government constructed a bridge over a stream along the route.

According to him, the journey from the area to Mowe could take about 10 minutes once the road and bridge are completed.

Adekunle also raised concerns about flooding and erosion, saying the absence of drainage channels had worsened the condition of the road.

He appealed to the state government to intervene, noting that residents had previously approached the Ifo Local Government authorities without any significant action.

A motorist in the area, Bolaji Adam, also criticised what he described as years of government neglect.

Adam said driving along the road during the rainy season had become extremely difficult, as motorists were forced to navigate potholes, craters and slippery sections.

He alleged that the road had remained in poor condition for more than 10 years despite the growing population of the communities.

“We have never enjoyed government in this area. There is no road, water, school or electricity. Every election period, politicians will come here and make promises, but they wouldn’t do anything,” he said.

The residents therefore appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun and other political leaders to prioritise the construction of the road, saying its completion would improve transportation, reduce accidents, boost economic activities and open up the communities to neighbouring areas.
