Five Die In Fatal Crash On Lagos-Badagry Expressway

Five adult males have died in a road accident involving a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The crash occurred in the early hours of Friday at Sawmill, near Mowo Bus Stop.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Dolphin Team from the Igando Base was deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 5:16 a.m.

According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, preliminary investigations showed that the driver of the Toyota Camry was allegedly speeding and driving recklessly when he lost control of the vehicle.

He said the car crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Iveco truck.

Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that all five occupants of the Toyota Camry died in the crash.

He added that their remains were recovered from the scene and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for further necessary action.

The rescue and recovery operation involved personnel from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the FRSC and officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Morogbo Division.

Two tow trucks were also deployed to remove the damaged vehicles, which were subsequently taken to the Morogbo Police Division.

The agency said the expressway was cleared and reopened to traffic after the operation.

Oke-Osanyintolu commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, particularly during the early hours of the day.

He warned motorists against speeding, wrongful overtaking and other dangerous driving practices, stressing that road safety remained a shared responsibility.

The LASEMA Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency response and continued collaboration with other agencies to protect lives and property across Lagos.
