Aiyedatiwa Commissions Multiple Roads In Akure
… flags off first anniversary projects
As part of activities marking the first anniversary of the administration of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Governor of Ondo State, the governor on Thursday commissioned multiple road projects in Akure, including the Igoba Township Road and the Alagbaka Extension Road (behind SIB).
At separate ceremonies held across the state capital, Aiyedatiwa described the projects as strategic infrastructure interventions aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and stimulating economic growth within Akure metropolis.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Igoba Township Road and other rehabilitated roads, the governor said the projects were critical to enhancing the quality of life for residents and boosting socio-economic activities.
He noted that the roads — including Gbangbalogun–Odole–Odiolowo Road, Lao–Oke Padre–Odopetu Road, Eco Bank–Oke Arata Road, Ajegunle Road, Oja Oshodi Road, SK Bright Street, Ayeloro Street and Igoba Road — were selected because of their strategic importance to the metropolis.
According to him, Igoba Road in particular serves as a key corridor that connects communities, facilitates trade and opens up development opportunities.
He said, “The completion of these roads demonstrates the efficacy of our administration’s vision and the diligence of our workforce.
“They are part of our broader agenda to build a state where citizens can thrive, where businesses can flourish and where opportunities abound.
“To our people, your patience and support have been a constant source of inspiration, and I assure you that we will continue to work assiduously to deliver projects that matter most to you.”
At the commissioning of the Alagbaka Extension Road, Aiyedatiwa said the project forms part of a deliberate and systematic implementation of the state’s infrastructure development programme designed to expand road networks, decongest high-traffic routes and enhance access to public institutions, residential estates and commercial hubs.
He described the Alagbaka road as a vital link road integrating adjoining streets and estates with major access routes within the Alagbaka axis, while also providing an alternative route to the Akure Airport.
He added that the project was executed in line with standard engineering specifications, with due attention to drainage systems, pavement strength and long-term durability to accommodate projected urban growth.
The governor stated that the projects align with his administration’s OUR EASE development agenda, particularly in the areas of urban renewal, ease of movement, economic accessibility and sustainable infrastructure.
“By opening up these corridors, we are not only improving mobility but also stimulating economic activities, increasing property values and supporting orderly urban expansion,” he said.
Reflecting on his administration’s first year in office, Aiyedatiwa highlighted achievements recorded in education, healthcare, agriculture and security, noting that his government had empowered farmers, supported small businesses and strengthened infrastructure across the state.
“These projects are critical infrastructure initiatives that will significantly enhance the quality of life for residents of Akure and other travellers, and drive economic growth across our state.
“As we mark the first anniversary of our administration, we take pride in celebrating the completion of these roads as a testament to our commitment to delivering dividends of good governance to our people,” the governor said
He disclosed that additional roads were being commissioned or flagged off across the state as part of the anniversary celebrations, with emphasis on equitable distribution and measurable impact.
The governor urged residents and motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and embrace a strong maintenance culture to preserve the lifespan of the newly constructed roads.
Expressing appreciation to engineers, contractors, community leaders and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the projects, Aiyedatiwa described the roads as symbols of inclusive and responsive governance.
He thereafter formally commissioned the roads for public use, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a functional, accessible and resilient Ondo State.
He said, “Towards ensuring the sustainability of this investment, I wish to enjoin all residents, motorists and other users of this facility to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and avoid activities that may compromise the structural integrity of the road.
“The adoption of a strong maintenance culture by all road users and stakeholders remains essential to preserving the lifespan and performance of the infrastructure.
“As a State Government, we remain steadfast in our resolve to the timely delivery of people-oriented and technically sound projects across the State”
