Container Truck Crash Injures Three On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Three people were injured on Tuesday after a 40-foot containerised truck crashed on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Mowe, Ogun State.

The crash occurred on the Kara Bridge, near ENYO Filling Station, around the expansion joint, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

LASTMA said the accident involved the lone truck, which reportedly suffered brake failure before crashing into the road demarcation blocks and other vehicles at the exit of the bridge.

The three injured persons were rescued and conveyed to an emergency centre for medical attention.

Following the crash, the entire carriageway inward OPIC was initially cordoned off as traffic management personnel introduced counterflow measures to ease vehicular movement and prevent further disruption.

LASTMA personnel, supported by officers from the Isheri Police Division and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, were deployed to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate the recovery operation.

In a subsequent update, LASTMA announced that the recovery and evacuation operations had been completed and the roadway fully cleared.

The agency, however, said a backlog of vehicles remained on the route, while its personnel continued to manage traffic and facilitate the restoration of normal vehicular movement.

“Recovery operations have been successfully completed at Kara Bridge inward Mowe. The roadway is now fully cleared, and traffic is flowing, although there is a backlog of traffic,” LASTMA stated.

The incident temporarily disrupted traffic along the busy expressway, which serves as a major link between Lagos and other parts of the South-West and beyond.
