FRSC Begins Three-Day Special Patrol on Abuja-Kaduna Highway
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a three-day special patrol operation along the Abuja-Kaduna highway as part of efforts to curb traffic violations and reduce road crashes on the busy corridor.
The operation, code-named “Operation Whirlwind,” began on Monday, September 14, and is scheduled to end on September 17, with enforcement activities commencing daily from 6am.
The Kaduna Sector Command said the exercise would focus on major traffic offences identified as contributing to road crashes and fatalities, including excessive speeding, overloading and route violations.
The FRSC Staff Officer, Public Education, Kaduna Sector Command, Route Commander Usman Garba, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna.
According to him, the special patrol was initiated in response to persistent traffic violations along the Abuja-Kaduna route and is aimed at ensuring greater compliance with road safety regulations among motorists.
Garba said the operation involved personnel from the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command, Kakau Unit Command, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army.
He added that enforcement officers would strictly enforce existing traffic regulations throughout the exercise, while a mobile court would also be deployed to facilitate the swift prosecution of motorists found violating the law.
The Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Andrew Longkam, urged motorists travelling between Abuja and Kaduna to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with officers deployed along the highway.
Longkam specifically cautioned motorists against speeding and overloading, advising drivers to remain on designated routes and exercise caution throughout their journeys.
He stressed that responsible driving and compliance with traffic regulations were essential to preventing avoidable crashes and protecting lives along the highway.
The FRSC said it would continue to combine enforcement with public education and collaboration with relevant security and traffic management agencies to strengthen road safety and reduce crashes along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor.
