Ekiti Distributes 100 Vehicles To Security Agencies To Strengthen Operations

The Ekiti State Government has distributed 100 operational vehicles to security agencies across the state as part of measures to enhance security operations, improve mobility and ensure faster responses to emergencies.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji handed over the vehicles to representatives of the benefiting agencies on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, with the police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services and local security networks among the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Oyebanji said the intervention demonstrated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies in the state.

The governor explained that the vehicles would also support the eventual take-off of the proposed Ekiti State Police Outfit, describing the provision as a significant step towards addressing the persistent demand for operational vehicles by security agencies.

“Lined up here are 100 units of security vehicles, primarily for operations and mobility of your personnel and the eventual take-off of the Ekiti State Police Outfit. This is in addition to our numerous interventions in the security sector in the state,” he said.

Oyebanji recalled that his administration had, two years earlier, distributed patrol vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, bulletproof vests, helmets and other security equipment to security agencies in the state.

He assured the agencies of continued government support, including regular monthly financial assistance and initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity of state-owned security institutions.

The governor charged security chiefs to reciprocate the government’s investment by intensifying patrols, increasing strategic visibility and ensuring faster responses to distress calls.

“With the provision of these vehicles, I will want to see increased patrols, strategic visibility, faster response and spontaneous agility on the part of your men. There should be no reasons for excuses, lapses or unprofessional conduct,” Oyebanji stated.

He also urged security and intelligence agencies to maximise the use of available surveillance technology and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to improve security coordination across the state.
