FG Approves 50% Train Fare Discount For Eid-el-Kabir Travels

The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent reduction in fares on all train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to cushion transportation costs for Nigerians during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation disclosed that the discounted fares took effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and will remain valid until Monday, June 1, 2026.

According to the ministry, all passenger train services across the country will operate at half of the existing approved ticket rates within the period of the intervention.

The ministry also stated that passengers who purchased tickets before the announcement at the old rates would receive a 50 per cent rebate, which can be reused for train journeys on or before June 1, 2026.

It added that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged throughout the festive period.

The government said the gesture was aimed at easing travel burdens for Nigerians celebrating Eid-el-Kabir and appreciated citizens for their continued support.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, wished Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful, a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
“Eid Mubarak,” he said.
