LASWA Felicitates Muslims On Eid-el-Adha, Warns Against Night Travel On Waterways

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has extended Eid-el-Adha greetings to waterways users, operators, stakeholders, and Muslim faithful in Lagos State, while urging strict adherence to safety regulations during the festive period.

In a statement issued by its Corporate Communications Department, the agency advised commuters and boat operators to prioritize safety on inland waterways, especially amid the ongoing rainy season.

LASWA cautioned against night travel on the waterways, citing poor visibility and adverse weather conditions that could endanger safe navigation. The Authority urged passengers to plan trips during daylight hours and remain alert throughout their journeys.

The agency also stressed the need for boat operators to navigate cautiously, comply with operational safety guidelines, avoid overspeeding, and monitor weather conditions before embarking on any trip.

According to the statement, the use of life jackets by all passengers and crew members remains compulsory throughout every journey, emphasizing that safety is a collective responsibility.

The Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Governor of Lagos State, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Adha celebration and reaffirmed LASWA’s commitment to ensuring safe, secure, and efficient waterways transportation across the state.

LASWA further wished Lagos residents a peaceful and safe celebration and encouraged them to celebrate responsibly by embracing safety-first practices on the waterways.

The Authority advised members of the public to contact LASWA through its official communication channels for additional inquiries and information.
