FG Begins Reconstruction Of Ado-Aramoko-Itawure Road
Ekiti State Government said on Tuesday that the Federal Government had begun reconstruction work on the 56.18km Ado-Itawure Road, a major route linking Ekiti State to the Osun State border.
The state Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said that the Federal Government awarded the contract to Messrs CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, with a completion timeline of 24 months starting from March 23, 2026.
Olatunbosun, who disclosed in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti, said, “The 56.18-kilometre road will begin from Fajuyi Park in Ado Ekiti and will be constructed using reinforced concrete from the Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti all the way to the Osun State boundary”.
According to him, the project has already moved beyond the planning stage, as the site has been handed over to the contractor and construction work has commenced around the Erio-Ekiti axis, reflecting the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule.
The commissioner described the development as a significant boost to the socio-economic growth of Ekiti State and the Southwest region as a whole.
He said, “The road serves as a critical corridor connecting key parts of the country, and its reconstruction will greatly improve movement, ease transportation challenges, and open up more opportunities for trade and commerce.
“This project goes beyond road construction; it is about improving lives, strengthening economic ties, and enhancing regional integration. We sincerely appreciate the Federal Government for this intervention and assure the Federal Ministry of Works of our full support to ensure its successful completion,” he said.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration in the state to initiatives that drive sustainable development and improve the people’s well-being, noting, “The project is one of the gains of the governor’s frequent engagements and strategic visits to the President and federal establishments in Abuja”.
Olatunbosun commended President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of Ekiti State through impactful infrastructure development.
He appealed to residents, road users, and other stakeholders to cooperate with the contractor and relevant authorities, particularly in managing traffic and observing safety measures throughout the construction period.
Recall that the state government had in November last year, disclosed that President Tinubu had approved the inclusion of the construction of Itawure – Aramoko – Ado Ekiti and Aramoko – Ijero – Ifaki Ekiti roads in the 2026 budget of the Federal Government.
The Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, had in a statement stated that a letter to the effect of the approval “has since been forwarded from the Office of the President to the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi. The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Oyebanji, was also copied.”
Oyebode added that “when constructed, the two newly approved roads will further ease travelling, enhance connectivity across different parts of the country, boost commercial activities and open up the state to greater economic opportunities and development.”
