FRSC Launches Road Safety Compliance Enforcement In Rivers
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Command, has commenced a week-long enforcement exercise aimed at improving compliance with road safety regulations among fleet operators, transport companies and commercial drivers across the state.
The exercise, which began on Monday, July 13, is scheduled to end on Friday and forms part of the Corps’ nationwide 2026 Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme (RTSSS) Enforcement Week.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Francis Ajatta, said the operation is designed to strengthen compliance with the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme while promoting higher safety standards across Nigeria’s road transport sector.
Ajatta explained that the enforcement drive focuses on three critical areas—driver safety, vehicle safety and operator safety standards—with the objective of reducing road crashes and safeguarding lives and property.
He noted that FRSC personnel would intensify enforcement against transport operators and drivers found violating provisions of the RTSSS.
According to him, offences targeted during the exercise include failure to register under the scheme, non-use of passenger manifests, overloading, speed limit violations, dangerous driving, drivers’ licence offences, tyre-related violations and other traffic infractions that pose risks to road users.
The sector commander stressed that the exercise is not intended to punish motorists but to encourage compliance with established safety regulations and foster a safer road transport system.
He urged fleet operators, transport companies, commercial drivers, school bus operators and other road users in Rivers State to comply fully with traffic laws and the provisions of the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme.
Ajatta described compliance with the scheme as both a legal obligation and a shared responsibility that would contribute significantly to improving road safety nationwide.
He reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and collaboration with stakeholders in the transport sector.
The sector commander also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with FRSC personnel throughout the enforcement period and report cases of unsafe driving and other traffic violations to the appropriate authorities.
The FRSC expressed confidence that increased compliance with the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme would help reduce avoidable road crashes and improve safety on highways in Rivers State and across the country.
