Lagos To Roll Out Structured On-Street Parking System
The Lagos State Government has urged motorists to adopt responsible parking habits ahead of the introduction of a structured on-street parking programme designed to improve traffic flow, safety and parking management across the state.
The appeal was made by the General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a more organised and efficient parking system.
Adelabu advised motorists to incorporate parking plans into their journeys by considering available approved parking spaces before setting out.
She said motorists should think about their destination, the most suitable means of transportation and the nearest designated parking areas, stressing that parking should be a planned decision rather than an afterthought.
According to her, LASPA has completed the necessary planning, testing and system improvements and is now ready to implement the enhanced on-street parking initiative across designated locations in Lagos.
She explained that streets covered under the programme would be clearly marked to indicate areas where parking is permitted, where paid parking applies and where parking is prohibited.
Adelabu urged motorists to obey road signs and pavement markings, including red lines, single yellow lines and double yellow lines, noting that they are essential for improving traffic management and ensuring public safety.
She added that while paid parking is already common in many parts of Lagos, the new initiative is intended to introduce a transparent and accountable system that channels payments through regulated processes rather than informal operators.
The LASPA General Manager called on residents to support the reform by complying with parking regulations and embracing responsible parking practices, saying public cooperation would be vital to achieving a more organised, accessible and efficient transport environment in Lagos.
