FRSC Launches Three-Day ‘Operation Sanity’ To Curb Road Crashes In Ondo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a three-day special enforcement operation, tagged “Operation Sanity,” to reduce road traffic crashes across Ondo State.

Speaking during the flag-off of the exercise in Akure on Monday, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, said the operation is specifically targeted at addressing the major causes of road crashes identified through the command’s research.

According to him, unlike routine road safety campaigns, the exercise will focus on enforcing compliance with critical traffic regulations that have been linked to frequent road accidents in the state.

He listed the targeted offences to include speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, tyre-related violations, driving under the influence of alcohol, seat belt violations, the use of mobile phones while driving, route violations, and vehicles emitting excessive smoke.

Ibitoye warned that motorists found violating any of the listed traffic regulations would be arrested, booked, fined, and sanctioned in accordance with existing road safety laws.

He explained that overloading not only endangers the lives of passengers but also damages road infrastructure, urging motorists to comply with traffic regulations for their safety and that of other road users.

The sector commander also said the operation would combine enforcement with public enlightenment, encouraging drivers to remain patient, avoid distractions while driving, and take personal responsibility for road safety.

He noted that the primary objective of the operation is to significantly reduce road crashes on highways in Ondo State and contribute to safer roads across the country.

The FRSC appealed to all motorists to drive responsibly and obey traffic rules throughout the exercise and beyond.
