FRSC Sensitises ICPC Staff On Road Safety, Defensive Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sensitised the management and staff of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on road safety, stressing that safe driving and ethical conduct are shared responsibilities.

The sensitisation programme, held at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja, focused on safe road practices, traffic regulations, and responsible road use aimed at reducing accidents and preventing loss of life.

In his welcome address, the Secretary to the Commission, Mr Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mr Musa Ibrahim Alkali, said road safety, like the fight against corruption, requires collective commitment.

He noted that the initiative would equip management and staff with practical knowledge on road safety and responsible behaviour, urging participants to pay close attention and maximise the opportunity provided by the exercise.

Speaking during the programme, the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Mr Ohaeri Osondu, delivered a paper titled, “Defensive Driving Skill: A Vital Road Safety Approach to Road Traffic Crash Reduction.”

Osondu highlighted the importance of defensive driving in reducing road traffic crashes and promoting safer roads, explaining that the approach helps motorists remain alert, anticipate potential dangers, improve reaction times, and cultivate safer driving habits.

He further stressed that maintaining safe distances, staying conscious of surrounding conditions, and adapting to changing road situations could significantly reduce accidents and improve safety for all road users.

The programme ended with a call for sustained collaboration between the FRSC and ICPC on public safety initiatives, with both organisations emphasising that integrity on the road is closely linked to integrity in public service.
