Ghana Envoy Commends United Nigeria Airlines, Seeks Stronger Partnership
The Ghanaian High Commissioner to Nigeria and Permanent Representative to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Sadiq Abdulai Abu, has commended United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) for its efficient service on the Accra-Abuja-Accra route.
Abu made the commendation when a delegation from the airline, led by its Director of Administration, Linus Awute, paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana High Commission in Abuja.
The visit was aimed at formally welcoming the High Commissioner to Nigeria and conveying the goodwill of UNA’s management and board.
The occasion was particularly significant as Abu’s first flight into Nigeria after resuming his diplomatic duties was aboard United Nigeria Airlines.
Speaking on behalf of UNA’s Executive Chairman, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Awute conveyed the airline’s goodwill to the High Commissioner and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
Awute also highlighted the significant presence of Ghanaian nationals within the airline’s workforce, noting that many Ghanaians occupy important positions and contribute to the airline’s operational efficiency and safety standards.
He said the participation of Ghanaian nationals in the airline further demonstrated the enduring people-to-people ties between the two West African countries.
In his response, Abu expressed appreciation to the UNA delegation for the visit and commended the airline for the quality of its service on the Accra route.
The High Commissioner also expressed interest in developing stronger collaboration between the Ghana High Commission and the airline.
Abu informed the delegation that Ghana would mark its 70th Independence Anniversary on March 6, 2027, and invited United Nigeria Airlines to explore partnership opportunities connected with the planned commemorative activities.
He further requested that the airline consider providing a special corporate travel package for staff of the High Commission, as well as supporting arrangements for official cargo.
The UNA delegation welcomed the proposals and expressed its readiness to explore areas of cooperation with the Ghana High Commission.
Presenting a signature gift to the High Commissioner, Awute reiterated the airline’s commitment to strengthening relations between Ghana and Nigeria, in line with its “Flying to Unite” brand philosophy.
He said United Nigeria Airlines would continue to use its air connectivity between the two countries to promote diplomatic, economic, business and cultural relations, while further strengthening people-to-people ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
