Gov Soludo Commissions 1km Road In Onitsha-Odekpe, Commends Obele
Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has commissioned a newly constructed one-kilometre road leading to the Nigerian Naval Outpost in Onitsha-Odekpe community, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The road, which was entirely funded and constructed by prominent Anambra industrialist and philanthropist, High Chief Dr. Amb. Anthony Ikenna Obele (Okwunze Aguata), was formally handed over to the community and the Nigerian Navy on Friday, April 17, 2026.
According to media consultant, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, the project, executed through a Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) model, has transformed what was once a notorious stretch of road that became impassable during the rainy season into a smooth, functional corridor that now enhances mobility, security, and economic activities in the area.
Governor Soludo, who was represented by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, described the road as more than just infrastructure. He said it represents the restoration of dignity and the reopening of economic pathways for the people of Odekpe.
“Development doesn’t only come from the government,” the Governor noted, commending the success of the Public-Private Community Partnership model in Anambra State.
The Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral SD Ibrahim, who received the road on behalf of the Nigerian Navy, highlighted its strategic importance. He explained that the previous poor condition of the road had affected operational efficiency and response time for naval personnel.
The completed road, he said, will improve mobility, boost morale, increase property value, and bring overall development to the host community.
High Chief Anthony Ikenna Obele, who funded and supervised the project, explained that his intervention was driven by a simple sense of duty.
“I was motivated by the simple principle of putting the Anambra people first,” he said, adding that development should not be left to government alone but sustained through collaborative efforts.
The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by several dignitaries, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and members of the OghaleIsoko2027 political structure. His Serene Highness, High Chief Jude E. Okasili (Oduma Inyele VIII of Odekpe Ancient Kingdom), commended Chief Obele for his selfless service and conferred on him the symbolic title of “Field Marshal” in appreciation.
This project is the second major road intervention by Chief Obele in recent months. In January 2026, Governor Soludo personally commissioned a five-kilometre road he constructed in his hometown of Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area.
