Jonathan Inaugurates N58.7bn Roads In Bauchi

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated 18 newly completed road projects executed by the Bauchi State Government at a total cost of N58.7 billion.

The roads, located across Bauchi metropolis, were inaugurated on Monday during Jonathan’s visit to the state ahead of the 2026 Democracy Dialogue.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jonathan commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic transformation.

He described road infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth, social inclusion and commercial expansion, noting that the newly completed roads would improve connectivity within the state capital and enhance access to essential services.

Jonathan said sustainable development could not be achieved without adequate investment in modern infrastructure.

“Roads are not merely transport routes; they are channels through which trade, investment and development flow,” he said.

The former president also recalled his previous visits to Bauchi, including one to inaugurate a road project and another for an economic summit, saying the latest projects demonstrated continuity in the state’s development efforts.

He further commended Governor Mohammed for what he described as visible achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and human capital development.

In his remarks, Governor Mohammed disclosed that his administration had constructed nearly 3,000 kilometres of roads across Bauchi State since assuming office.

He said the achievement represented significant progress towards the administration’s target of constructing 5,000 kilometres of roads across the state.

According to the governor, the road projects are aimed at stimulating economic activities, improving security and enhancing the quality of life of residents.

“Our target was to construct 5,000 kilometres of roads across Bauchi State. We have already delivered close to 3,000 kilometres, and the work continues,” Mohammed said.

The governor thanked residents for their patience during the construction period, acknowledging that several communities were still awaiting road projects.

He, however, assured residents that the government remained committed to extending infrastructure development across the state despite limited resources.
