Kano To Launch State-Owned Airline Within One Year, Says Gov Yusuf
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced plans to establish a state-owned commercial airline as part of efforts to create employment opportunities for trained indigenous pilots and boost the state’s aviation sector.
The governor disclosed this during the 40th Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House in Kano, where he received several awards, including recognition from the Kano State Pilot Association for supporting members of the association to complete their aviation training.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the proposed Kano Airline is expected to commence operations within the next year.
Yusuf said the state government was committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the successful takeoff and sustainability of the airline.
“By the grace of God, the proposed Kano Airline will commence operations within the next one year. We are committed to providing all the necessary support to actualise the project and ensure its successful operation,” the governor said.
He also praised the performance of Kano-sponsored pilots who underwent aviation training in Jordan under a programme initiated by a previous administration, describing their achievements as commendable.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the pilots and creating opportunities for them to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the aviation industry.
Earlier, Chairman of the Kano State Pilot Association, Naziru Ibrahim, commended the governor for facilitating the revalidation of the pilots’ flying licences.
He appealed for additional government support to enable members of the association to obtain their final certifications, which would qualify them to operate commercial flights both within Nigeria and internationally.
The planned airline is expected to expand employment opportunities for trained aviation professionals while strengthening Kano State’s presence in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
