Lagos Govt Warns Car Spotters Against Obstructing Roads

The Lagos State Government has warned car enthusiasts engaging in car-spotting activities across the state against obstructing traffic, constituting a nuisance or infringing on the privacy of residents.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, issued the warning on Tuesday, following the circulation of a video showing car-spotting activities on a Lagos road.

Wahab said the government had no objection to car enthusiasts pursuing their interests, provided such activities were carried out responsibly and without disrupting the free movement of motorists and other road users.

According to him, car spotters are free to visit car lots and other suitable locations to observe and photograph vehicles, but would not be permitted to occupy public roads for the purpose.

“You can do your car spotting without constituting a nuisance or obstructing the road in any way,” the commissioner said.

He added, “You are welcome to visit car lots and engage in your car-spotting activities there. However, staying on the road for this purpose will not be allowed in any way.”

Wahab also expressed concern over privacy, noting that roadside car-spotting could become intrusive and amount to a nuisance.

“Aside from being a nuisance, it is also a breach of privacy and will not be tolerated by the State Government,” he warned.

Car spotting, which involves photographing or recording luxury, exotic and high-performance vehicles, has gained popularity among enthusiasts in Lagos.

The state government’s warning is aimed at ensuring that the activity does not interfere with traffic flow, public safety or the privacy of residents.
