Lagos Screens 1,000 Police Officers Under Sanwo-Olu Police Care Initiative

The Lagos State Government has screened 1,000 police officers under the Sanwo-Olu Police Care Initiative, a medical outreach programme aimed at improving the health and welfare of officers serving in the state.
The initiative, which commenced on Friday at the Police Headquarters in Ikeja, provided beneficiaries with free eye screening, prescription lenses and general health checks.
The programme is fully funded by the state government as part of efforts to strengthen institutions responsible for safeguarding lives and property.
Speaking after the outreach, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, said the extension of the programme to police officers followed a request by the Inspector General of Police in recognition of the critical role officers play in maintaining law and order across Lagos.
Adekoya explained that the Police Care Initiative builds on the success of the Drivers’ Care Programme recently flagged off at Lillypond Terminal, Apapa.
The drivers’ initiative moved through Eleko Junction and Obalende before concluding its first phase at Iyana-Iba Park.
According to him, the Drivers’ Care Programme targets 10,000 professional drivers across the state and offers free eye screening and glasses, drug testing and sensitisation, as well as complimentary Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) cards.
He noted that extending the medical outreach to police officers underscores the government’s appreciation of the indispensable role of security personnel in protecting residents and maintaining public order.
“Ensuring that officers are medically fit enhances operational efficiency and strengthens the overall security architecture of the state,” Adekoya said.
With the completion of the 1,000-officer target, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to sustained welfare-driven interventions aimed at supporting public servants and enhancing service delivery across Lagos.
