The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a dedicated Anti-Crime Patrol Unit to strengthen efforts at combating criminal activities and environmental violations across the state.
The Chairman of the agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, unveiled the unit on Wednesday at the Taskforce headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, describing the initiative as a strategic move to rid Lagos of criminal elements posing threats to residents and visitors.
Akerele said the unit would operate as a rapid response team with the mandate to arrest and prosecute offenders involved in crimes such as drug peddling, street hooliganism, activities of “area boys” (popularly referred to as “Omotaku”), and “one-chance” robbery syndicates.
He added that the team would also target environmental infractions, attacks on government officials on lawful duty, quackery, and other related offences.
According to him, the Taskforce will intensify surveillance, patrols, and enforcement operations across identified flashpoints in the state to ensure improved public safety.
“We will be all out to stamp out criminal activities in the state this year. No stone will be left unturned to compel criminals to desist or relocate from Lagos,” Akerele stated.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement authorities.
The newly established unit is expected to operate round-the-clock, focusing on proactive detection, deterrence, and prevention of criminal activities before they escalate into major security threats.
