Truck Crushes Bus, Injures Female POS Operator In Lagos

A female Point of Sale (POS) operator sustained severe leg injuries on Monday after a 40-foot container truck lost control and crashed along the Second Rainbow inward Oshodi corridor in Lagos.

The accident occurred on the service lane near the Police Tactical Team Station, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

LASTMA said the heavily loaded articulated truck overturned after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crushing a commercial mini-bus and ramming into nearby roadside shops.

The incident triggered panic among traders, motorists and commuters within the busy commercial area as the truck veered off the road.

Emergency responders, including police officers stationed nearby, quickly rescued the injured POS operator and rushed her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Traffic officials immediately arrived at the scene to manage vehicular movement, coordinate rescue operations and secure the area against further disruption.

The truck driver was subsequently apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Authorities also deployed a recovery vehicle to evacuate the overturned truck and the damaged mini-bus from the road, while officers from the Orile-Iganmu Police Division commenced a full investigation into the incident.

Despite the severity of the crash and the damage recorded on nearby shops, traffic flow around the area was largely maintained due to the swift response of emergency and traffic management officials.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged operators of articulated vehicles and logistics companies to ensure regular maintenance and proper mechanical checks of heavy-duty trucks, particularly their braking systems, before putting them on the road.

He warned that poor vehicle maintenance continues to pose serious risks to lives and public safety across Lagos.
