LASEMA Extinguishes Otedola Bridge Tanker Fire, Two Men Injured
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that a tanker fire beneath the Otedola Bridge has been completely extinguished, with traffic flow restored along the affected corridor.
The incident involved a fallen tanker conveying 33,000 litres of diesel, which caught fire and triggered an emergency response involving multiple agencies.
In an update on Monday, October 19, 2026, LASEMA said two adult men sustained second- and third-degree burns in the incident.
According to the agency, emergency responders coordinated efforts with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service to contain the fire and manage the situation.
LASEMA disclosed that paramedics administered initial treatment to the injured victims at the scene, stabilising them before they were evacuated for further medical attention.
The agency confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished, while dampening operations were 80 per cent complete at the time of its report.
It explained that dampening was necessary to reduce the risk of reignition and ensure the affected area was safe before recovery operations commenced.
LASEMA added that the removal and recovery of the fallen tanker would begin after the completion of the dampening exercise.
The successful response brought the emergency under control and allowed traffic to resume along the Otedola Bridge corridor, while safety operations continued at the scene.
The incident highlights the risks associated with tanker accidents involving flammable petroleum products and the importance of coordinated emergency response to minimise casualties and protect road users.
