LASTMA, Ifako-Ijaiye Leaders Strengthen Partnership To Improve Traffic Discipline In Lagos
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving traffic discipline across Lagos through stronger collaboration with communities and key stakeholders.
This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by members of the Ifako-Ijaiye Leaders of Thoughts Association to the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi, where both parties discussed strategies for enhancing traffic management and public awareness.
The delegation, comprising community leaders, professionals and other stakeholders from Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, commended LASTMA for its efforts in addressing traffic congestion despite increasing transportation challenges across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, appreciated the association for supporting the agency’s vision of promoting voluntary compliance with traffic regulations through public enlightenment, strategic partnerships and civic responsibility.
Bakare-Oki stressed that restoring order on Lagos roads requires collective responsibility beyond law enforcement. According to him, residents, community groups, traditional rulers, religious organisations, transport unions and other stakeholders all have critical roles to play in ensuring safer roads.
He added that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains committed to building a safer and more efficient transport system, noting that LASTMA has continued to strengthen its operations through personnel training, technology deployment, intelligence-driven traffic management and sustained public sensitisation.
The General Manager also urged communities to support efforts aimed at curbing traffic violations such as indiscriminate parking, one-way driving and road obstruction, which continue to impede the free flow of traffic across Lagos.
He assured the delegation that LASTMA would deepen its engagement with Community Development Associations, professional bodies and civil society organisations to improve compliance with traffic regulations and enhance public confidence in the agency.
Earlier, President of the Ifako-Ijaiye Leaders of Thoughts Association, Chief Jonathan Tawose, described LASTMA as a vital institution in promoting road safety, traffic orderliness and sustainable urban mobility in Lagos.
Tawose pledged the association’s support for the agency through grassroots advocacy, public sensitisation and stakeholder engagement to encourage motorists, commercial transport operators and pedestrians to comply with traffic laws.
Both parties agreed to sustain regular engagement and expand joint public enlightenment campaigns aimed at promoting traffic discipline and supporting the Lagos State Government’s transportation agenda.
